If Yelp had anything below one dollar sign, like half a $, then all these dumpling places in New York City would have that. I’m constantly shocked by how CHEAP places like Vanessa’s and Prosperity are. I didn’t think it was possible, but China North Dumpling has raised the bar. By that I mean they’ve made getting dumplings in Chinatown even more affordable.
I’m used to getting 4 or 5 dumplings for around $1.50. At China North Dumpling, you get TEN, that’s right TEN dumplings, for $2. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat.
Honestly, I didn’t look too closely at the menu, because I figured it was the same idea as the other places, so I ordered my go-to of fried chive and pork dumplings plus a sesame pancake. When he handed me my bowl full of dumplings, I had a moment of panic where I thought he misunderstood me and thought I wanted two orders of dumplings and no pancake. I asked about my pancake and he said it was coming, so still confused, I finally looked at the menu again and saw that there were 10 to and order. AND I ACTUALLY GOT ELEVEN! Good grief.
The filling of the dumpling actually took me by surprise too because it tasted more…flavorful (?) than others I’ve had. It was almost like the pork filling had been marinated or was in a sauce. I ate each and every single one, and my whole sesame pancake with pork, which only cost $2 by the way, but the ten dumplings would’ve been enough for sure.
I happened to go here on Super Bowl Sunday and it hit me that this would such an awesome contribution to any football party or pot luck. Why? Because you can get THIRTY frozen dumplings for only $5. It’s not even like they’re that hard to cook at home!! I just can’t.
