The Upper East Side has quite the abundance of lovely dessert options like Two Little Red Hens, Laduree Macarons, and Serendipity to name just a few. Lady M is another one that really seems to embody the UES–chic and a little bit pricey–and it’s also utterly delicious.
Located close to Central Park, Lady M is a tiny little place decorated almost entirely in white. It’s very minimalist, with only a few small tables and a long counter along one side with their desserts on display. While they have some savory options like sandwiches and salads, Lady M is famous for their beautiful cakes, most notably their mille crepes cakes.
The Mille Crepes is a cake made out of “no less than 20 paper-thin handmade crepes” with pastry cream in between each layer. I’ve never heard of such a thing before coming here, and it’s such a wonderful idea. Crepes + cake…how can you go wrong? My friend and I split the green tea and lemon flavors (I believe the flavors change with the seasons but the green tea is a mainstay). I mean what else can I say…these cakes had such a lovely texture. They’re light, not overly sweet, and really just a lot of fun to eat. I can always appreciate a cake that doesn’t make me feel 10 pounds heavier after I eat it. I think I preferred the green tea flavor. As I mentioned before, these are a little bit expensive, going for about $8 a slice, but for such an unusual and pretty creation, I think it was worth it!
Many people take their order to go since the place is so small and there is an automatic 18% gratuity added when you dine in. Their other desserts look quite exquisite as well, particularly the checkered cake, which I’ll have to try the next time I stop by.
