When I have friends visiting, I go all out. Months in advance, I’ll have a whole itinerary set up for them to make sure we hit everything they want to see and everything I think they should see, all strategically planned so that no time is wasted commuting all over the city. Maybe this makes me a little OCD, but it also means that my friends can just relax and enjoy their time in NYC without having to worry or stress about where to go and when.
It should come as no surprise that some of the most important parts of these itineraries are where we eat. Many of my friends who visit have never been to New York City before, so I try to make sure that while they’re here, they get an idea of what the city’s most popular or signature foods are. Basically, I realllyyy want every meal to count. This means that there’s always going to be some deli, pizza, burger, ramen, and last but not least, bagel action.
When two of my college friends visited during Thanksgiving (by the way, thanks for saving me from what would have been an incredibly lonely and sad first Thanksgiving in the city!), I decided that it would be nice to grab a bagel and walk in the park after all the sight-seeing and touristy things we had been doing.
We went to Bagel Bob’s, which I frequently passed by and had taken mental note of because the place was always buzzing with people and that’s always a good sign. I ordered an everything bagel (and probably will always get that kind ever since I found out they existed) with scallion cream cheese.
Now, I was expecting them to give me a bagel split in half with a some cream cheese spread on both sides. Plain and simple. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to get this giant bagel sandwich. The bagel was so thick and perfectly toasted, and they definitely did not skimp on the cream cheese. Seriously, the cream cheese was like an inch thick on each half!
After I ate this, my tummy was satisfied for a good while. It’s definitely the kind of bagel that you could eat as your lunch. That’s the kind of bagel I can appreciate.
