The Original Soupman

Let’s just come out with it. I am not a Seinfeld fan. I tried watching a couple episodes a while back and just couldn’t get into it. When I think about it now, maybe I was too young to appreciate or understand it? I don’t really know, but I can’t really remember anything from it, so maybe I’ll give it another try one day.

Even though I’m not and never have been a a Seinfeld fan, I am a fan of eating at restaurants made famous from TV shows and movies (like Katz’s Deli, Cafe Lalo, and Serendipity). Let’s just call it the inner tourist in me. I’m sure many of you are familiar with the Soup Nazi episode of Seinfeld (“No soup for you!”). Well here’s the place!

Unfortunately, I did not get the entire Soup Nazi experience. When I stopped by to grab a quick cup of soup, there was no one else in sight. No line, no need to have my order ready to shout as soon as I reached the counter, nothing! Granted, I went at an odd time around 2 or 3 in the afternoon in the summer, but it was actually all very relaxed.

I ordered a cup of lobster bisque as I heard that was one of the more popular items and it was fantastic. A cup was a good size serving and each order came with with a piece of bread and chocolate (umm…so cute right? bread yeah, but chocolate?!) I’ll have to go back one day to try the shrimp and crab bisque. And maybe once I’ve actually watched Seinfeld
