The Meatball Shop

IMG_3885MEATBALLS! I mean…what else is there to say really? This restaurant was another one I found through some Google searches of where to eat around the city. I made plans with a couple friends to eat at The Meatball Shop and then check out the Highline.

It was a nice Saturday afternoon so the place was pretty packed, but we grabbed a seat at the communal table right away. I went with the classic beef meatballs, and maybe it was a little bit sacrilegious, but I opted for the parmesan cream sauce instead of a tomato based sauce. Have I not mentioned that I love cheese? I will always pick alfredo sauces over marinara ones. Let me tell you, the parmesan cream sauce was SOOOO GOOD. And so rich. I sopped up as much of it as I could with the delicious focaccia bread that comes with the Naked Balls order.

I have since become accustomed to finding myself in the midst of a film or TV set on the street, but at the time I was like wait…we should not be here. So we turned onto a side street so we wouldn’t be standing smack dab in the middle of the filming and what do we see and almost run into? A tent with none other than Matthew McConaughey sitting there. He was only a couple feet away from us with no security blocking the tent, so I probably could’ve walked right in there and had a chat with him. The funny thing?  Out of all the celebrities for me to see in New York, I had to run into the one that I had seen already in Austin at various UT sporting events. If you didn’t know, Matthew McConaughey is a Texan and a UT alumni who loves going to football games. Oh well, I’m not complaining! And if you were curious, I later learned that they were filming this commercial. Go Longhorns!
