Artichoke Basille’s Pizza

Just so you know, I am a pizza fiend. It is the one food I could eat every single day and not get sick of it. Sophisticated tastes I know. Well, since moving to New York, it’s been like paradise because I’ve been bombarded with more pizza joints than I can keep track of and it.is.awesome.  All of which claim to be “the best pizza in New York” mind you. From $1 slices to artisan pies with ingredients like goat cheese, balsamic vinegar, and arugula, there is a never-ending selection of pizzas to keep me happy.

Artichoke Pizza was actually one of the first “big NY pizza places” that I heard of. During the summer, I was eavesdropping on someone else’s conversation and a girl said something like “omg you have to go to Artichoke pizza!!!” Maybe a normal person would not have cared one bit about this little comment, but a) I’m always on the lookout for new restaurants to try and b) she was talking about PIZZA, so of course I took mental note of it.

Anyways, get to the pizza right? Well, I paid Artichoke pizza a visit with my mom the first night we got into New York for a week of job interviews and apartment hunting. No question in my mind that I wanted pizza as my first meal upon arriving in the Big Apple again! We went to the East Village location, where I’m assuming a lot of the business comes from the walk-up window where you can order a slice (assuming because there was a long line there).  We decided to go the sit-down route in the small seating area next to this walk-up area.IMG_4547

One of my rules when ordering food is that if a menu item is in the restaurant’s name then I have to order it. So, naturally, we ordered a small artichoke pie, which was MORE  than enough. It was the cheesiest, gooiest, messiest pizza I’ve ever eaten, and I loved every second of it. From what I came to understand, this isn’t your typical New York pizza, but man was it delicious. I love my pizza cheesy (I’m one of those people that will order “extra cheese” as a topping instead of adding meat), so this was just what the doctor ordered. It’s definitely one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had, and I will most DEFINITELY be back for more of these cheesy goopy goodness.
